Mother’s Day!

17 May 2010 In: Crafting, Family

I hope that everyone had a fabulous Mother’s Day.

I wanted to show real quick what the kids made for all the moms in our lives.

A keychain made from Shrinky Dinks.

I drew out the hearts and had the kids color them with colored pencils. Then cut them out and shrunk them. Not to bad. I really like Shrinky Dinks. They are are cute.

Matching Bowling shirts

17 May 2010 In: Family, Sewing

Did you guys see the previous bowling shirt that I made for the man?  You can see it here.

Well this summer I am going to make the same shirt for the man and a matching one for my son. How cute will they be?! Matching shirts. When I am finished I will definitely get pictures.

This is the fabric that I will use on the front panels.

The print is huge!! I had to put the tape measure down so that you could see how long the car is. The print looked a lot smaller in the pictures online. I got the fabric from Fabric.com. Fab place. The rest of the fabric is in the electric blue. Just like the color on the car.   I can’t wait to start on these.

The dress for the girl is finished.

I finished the dress for N last night. Thankfully she was kinda cooperative and I took some pictures.

This is the face that she makes when she sees a camera.

This is from a Simplicity  patterns 7407.  This is an older pattern that my mom gave me. I was going to make the gathers a different color but  wasn’t able to locate something that would look good in the same material. Apparently the cherries were pretty popular.

Here is the back. I like how it crosses in the back.

Leave a comment and let me know what you think. I love it.

What I am working on now

5 May 2010 In: Crafting, Sewing

I am finally getting over my morning sickness so that I am able to pick up fabric and scissors again. Isn’t it wonder how fabric feels in between your fingers as you get ready to cut it in the purpose of making something fabulous? (well that is the plan most of the time. It is hit and miss too.)

Here is what I am working on at the present.

Isn't that the cutest little summer outfit. I have the fabric cut out. I just need to get it together. I haven't decided what I am going to do for the trim. I was thinking either a white or am trim in the same fabric. Contrast would be nice though too, huh? Still thinking about it.

The doll below is for the girl. I made another one for her cousin’s birthday.

It is based off the Black Apple dolls, but instead of embroidering the face and sewing on the hair I just painted everything on. Which is why she has big red lips. I need practice on painting doll faces.

I am working on Mother’s Day gifts this week but won’t show them until after the weekend. I know that certain mothers read this blog.

I have also made these fabulous fabric buckets from this tutorial at Ric-Rac.

I love these buckets and plan to make more of them. Now my scissors and sewing stuff is away from small hands that like to grab and dash.

I am baffled

19 Apr 2010 In: Family

I don’t get to use that word very often. Baffled.

The reason I am baffled is that my husband was giving our 20 month old daughter a bath. He took off her clothes and then handed them to her asking her to put them in the dirty clothes hamper.  We like to think that we are trying to train our children to be able to pick up after themselves if we succeed at nothing else.

Well the man calls me a few minutes later asking ” Did she put the clothes in the hamper?” to which I responded “She didn’t even come this way.”  Then we just looked at each other wondering where the girl had put her dirty clothes.

All the while the man was giving the kids a bath I looked all over the house in trying to find her clothes, but they are good and hidden. I can’t find them for anything.

And the girl isn’t giving up her secrets.

I went to our local fabric store, Joanns, and found some really cute fabric that I wanted to make shorts for the kids for the coming summer. Besides it will only be for so much longer that J will love what I make for him. I know that he won’t wear the novelty prints for to much longer. But I do have to say he really appreciates it now. I love it when he throws his arms around  me and tells me that he loves me for making him clothes. That is the best!

This is the outfit that he loves the best.

Here is a close up of his shirt. I used a freezer paper stencil for the words. Not perfect but he doesn't care.

Tractors and Monster Trucks.

Just a little pair of shorts that I made for N using the same pattern for J last year.

A little skirt using the same material. She has a lot of room to grow with this one.

That is it for now. I am working on a little sun dress for N once I manage to clear off my sewing table.

Later.

Ok, my big news.

26 Mar 2010 In: Family

It is really only big for my family. We are expecting our third lovemuffin. Which explains my lack of posts. Morning sickness… yay….

This morning  while I was making a healthy snack , celery with peanut butter, I saw a jar of Kosher Dill pickles in my cabinet. Oh my goodness!!! The desire for pickles was overwhelming. I ate three in a row. So much for my peanut butter celery.

But at least I know of someone who had a good time munching and crunching on my celery.

She has such a good time.

Well I have some news…

But won’t let the cat out of the bag yet. Nothing major but it is the reason why I haven’t been updating my blog.  So thanks to all those who follow. I haven’t forgotten about you but it will be a while before I am back.

I seemed to have lost my mojo too and the fact that I can’t see my sewing area very well right now doesn’t help. It is covered in clothes.  I hope to have something to post soon.

Have you ever wanted Pom Poms?

9 Feb 2010 In: Crafting, Family

I have. Since I was a little girl. Just see them and hearing the swishing sound. I have never owned a pair…until NOW!!!

Cut your bag open by cutting off the bottom and then the middle with each handle on the side. So when you have it laid open and flat it looks like this.

Then lay four or five on top of each other all facing the same way with the handles all together.

Next cut starting in the middle about 1 to 2 inch strip to about 2 inches from the top.

Now grab the handles and straighten everything out. Twisting, turning and bending make the handle to look like above. I wanted to use duct tape but couldn't find it.

Instead I used strips from another plastic bag.

Just wrap the handle using your strips and secure it.

Voila!! Finished!! Give it a good shake to shake out any little pieces.

Pom Pom action shot! Love the swishy sound!

Just be careful of any little kids that like to chew on things like plastic.

The Jacket is done.

Shew!!  I spent a lot of time on this thing. I think that it turned out really well.

Once again the color is really gray.

The front is slightly off kilter, but I can go back and move the buttons around to make it straight. Other than that finished!! I am so glad too. I took a lot of time and energy to make this one look good and not slapdash.

Close up of the front.

The front of the bound buttonhole with fabric covered buttons too. This was definitely a learning experience on the buttonholes and the fabric covered buttons. The buttons could be addicting...I am just thinking of all my scraps that I haven't given away... the thought makes me happy. : )

Back of the buttonhole

The lining. This was a prequilted fabric. I bought it on a whim and finally made something of it. I really like the inside too. So pretty.

It is to bad that I can’t wear it. I look like a stuffed sausage in it.  I will probably give it to a family member since I will be out this weekend visiting family in Alabama.

Feel free to leave a comment and tell me what you think.
